Darrell B. Richards,90, of Westport passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at his
residence. He was born February 22, 1936, in Indianapolis, the son of Maurice B.
and Margaret (Newkirk) Richards Elam. He was a lifelong resident of Jennings and
Decatur Counties. Darrell received his bachelor’s degree from Anderson College
and was Certified Public Accountant. He owned a tax service for many years doing
taxes and helping people of lesser means. He was a 50-year member of the
Westport Masonic Lodge # 51 F.& A.M., the York Rite, the Scottish Rite and the
Shrine. His hobbies were farming, including tree farming along with soil and
water conservation. He also served as union president when he worked at the
Muscatatuck State Hospital. He is survived by his daughters, Laurel M. Fry of
Westport, Hazel Letts of Florida, Jeannie Golden, Mary Jo Senior all of North
Vernon and Rachel D. Short of Ohio; his sons, John (Cindy) Richards of Westport
and Daniel B. Richards of Commiskey; his several grandchildren and great
grandchildren. He was also survived by his beloved dogs, Cotton, Josie, Lady,
Willow, Anna and Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather,
Mitchell Elam. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,
