Greensburg, IN – At approximately 8:30 a.m. members of the Greensburg Police
Department responded to the Greensburg Jr High School in reference to possible
shots fired. Once on scene the Greensburg Police Officers along with the School
Resource Officers performed sweeps of the building to assess the situation. Once
the sweeps were concluded it was found that there were no threats to the staff or
students.
The Greensburg Police Department would like to thank the administration, staff
and students of the Greensburg Jr High School for following their procedures that
they have in place. We would also like to thank the Decatur County Sheriff’s
Office, The Decatur County Central Dispatch and the Decatur County E.M.A. for
their assistance on this call.
Please read below for the official statement from the Greensburg Community
Schools.
“Approximately at 8:30 this morning, a call to 911 was made from the junior high
after a person heard two loud bangs. Following all protocols, GJHS went into our
lockdown procedures. A school resource officer was already onsite, and members
of the Greensburg Police Department were in the building moments later. Sweeps
of the building were made to assess the situation. While it was concluded that
there was no threat to our students and staff at any time, we understand that
receiving a message of this type is unsettling. While we never want to have to test
emergency protocols, we are grateful that our emergency response was swift and
immediate”.
