Two dogs perish in fire at Lake McCoy

On Saturday, January 8, 2022, at approximately 0915 The Greensburg Fire department responded to a structure fire located at 4408 East Sunny Lane, Lake McCoy, Washington Twp. Fire crews arrived on the scene and found heavy fire and smoke showing. There were reports of unknown potential occupants in the home as reported by bystanders on the scene. An interior search was ordered by command, units started a primary search and were quickly met with fire conditions that were not compatible with life. Units were ordered out of the structure and defensive (outside only) fire tactics were utilized. Neighbors notified the renters, and it was confirmed that no persons were home. There were two dogs inside, however.  Additional assistance in bringing water to fight the fire was required. Those assisting fire agencies were New Point VFD, Clarksburg VFD, and Batesville Fire & EMS.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries or fatalities, two dogs did perish.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation at the time by the Greensburg Fire Department.
