The Decatur County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m., led by Chairperson Larry Rueff. Trustees approved the minutes from the October 23 meeting and reviewed October’s financial reports, which showed a favorable operating margin along with updates on cash flow, investments, and capital asset purchases.
Committee updates were presented from Compliance/Risk Management/Audit, Planning, Finance, and Quality Management. Each committee summarized its early-November discussions, focusing on operational needs and challenges presented by the current healthcare environment.
In new business, trustees reviewed capital funding requests, considered recommendations for board appointments to the County Commissioners, and discussed employee holiday gifts. The board also conducted its annual election of officers and received updates on the hospital’s wage and salary program, along with reports from recent department visits.
President and CEO Rex McKinney highlighted several recent community outreach efforts, including a record-setting Total Joint Day, ongoing community flu clinics, and the Girls Night Out event featuring speakers on breast cancer awareness and foot care. McKinney also noted continuing challenges with reimbursement levels across the healthcare industry.
The Medical Staff Report included new appointment applications from physicians—primarily in teleradiology and orthopedic surgery—plus one allied health provider. Trustees also reviewed two reappointment requests and acknowledged two terminations from the medical staff.
The meeting concluded with final comments and confirmation that the next board meeting will take place December 18, 2025.
