Greensburg, IN – October 31, 2025, Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) proudly announces that Ally Metz has received the prestigious 2025 Outstanding Critical Access Hospital Leadership Award, recognizing her remarkable leadership in enhancing healthcare quality and patient outcomes in our rural community. As Director for Inpatient Services and the Readmissions Reduction Team, Ally has played a key role in lowering hospital readmissions by strengthening teamwork and ensuring patients receive the care and support they need to recover fully.
In 2023, DCMH’s hospital readmission rate was 7.76%, meaning nearly 8 out of every 100 patients needed to come back soon after being discharged. Under Ally’s guidance in 2024, this number dropped to just 5.29%. This improvement shows how Ally and her team have made real progress in helping patients recover fully and stay healthy.
Ally led a team focused on making sure patients get the support they need after leaving the hospital. By improving communication between doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other care providers, and by strengthening collaboration with local extended care facilities, home health agencies, and other community partners, patients now experience smoother transitions of care. With closer follow-up and more coordinated support, patients receive better care and face fewer disruptions to their lives, resulting in improved long-term outcomes.
“Ally has brought our teams together to focus on what really matters, keeping patients healthy,” said Jenny Simon, Chief Nursing Officer at DCMH. “Her leadership has made a big difference for patients and their families across our community.”
DCMH President & CEO Rex McKinney added, “Reducing readmissions is especially important in a rural area like ours. Ally’s work helps ensure that our patients receive the right care at the right time, which benefits everyone.”
Ally’s approach encourages teamwork and accountability across the hospital, empowering staff to work together to improve care every day. Her commitment to patient-centered care has strengthened trust in DCMH and helped create a healthier community.
Please join DCMH in congratulating Ally Metz for her outstanding leadership and dedication to improving healthcare in the community.
