Greensburg, IN – September 14, 2026 – Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) recently welcomed community members to its annual Total Joint Day, offering free screening X-rays, education, and guidance to help people better understand their joint pain and decide next steps.
Held Saturday, September 12, this year’s event included one education session focused on common orthopedic concerns, including shoulder, hip, and knee discomfort, as well as two back-to-back foot and ankle pain education sessions.
More than half of participants (56%) were identified as needing orthopedic-specific follow-up beyond general self-care recommendations such as stretching or over-the-counter medications.
“Having more than half of our participants identified as needing some level of follow-up reinforces that there is a real need for this type of community event,” said Rex McKinney, President and CEO of DCMH. “Total Joint Day gives people an opportunity to get answers, talk directly with orthopedic specialists, and better understand their options before pain or mobility issues have an even greater impact on their daily lives.”
Total Joint Day was designed for adults experiencing knee, hip, shoulder, foot, or ankle pain and included:
· A free X-ray of the affected joint or body part
· Free education sessions led by Dr. Kalen Farr, Dr. Douglas Federle, and Dr. Eric Tannenbaum
· Free one-on-one consultations with the specialist who reviewed the participants’ X-ray and provided individualized recommendations for next steps
This year, DCMH also enhanced the registration process to make it easier for participants to stay informed about their appointments. The updated process provided clearer appointment information and reminders leading up to the event, helping participants know what to expect and arrive prepared for their scheduled screenings and education sessions.
“Our physicians, nurses, and team members genuinely care about the people in our community,” said Renee Muckerheide, Director of Surgery at DCMH. “It was wonderful to see everyone come together to give their time and expertise to help our community members understand their health and what they could do next, at no cost to them.”
