Decatur County Commissioners

The Decatur County Commissioners met on Monday. The board approved the claims.

Mark Mohr gave an update. At the last meeting they discussed bridge 131 and whether or not they wanted to do a repair or a total replacement and decided to table it. The board approved that they would keep it closed and submit for federal aid in November to replace the bridge. N CR 880 E is currently having dirt work done, weather permitting, and they have contacted Globe Asphalt about doing the asphalt once they reach that point. Bridge 116 was another bridge that had been closed during the last inspection. Since then they have done repairs and it should be ready for a new inspection by the end of the week. They continued the discussion on what to do about allies with structures built on them. This will be handled on a case to case basis.

Krista Duvall presented ordinances 2020-10 and 2021-11. These were approved.

Kenny Buening gave an update. There have been 48 inspections, 28 new building permits, 2 complaints- 1 for an abandoned house and one for trash/junk on a property, and 1 red tag.

Diane Wenning requested funds for an air purifier and dehumidifier. This is to help with mold and mildew in their office that is not caused by a leaking roof. This was approved.

Philip Deiwert gave an update on the tower tree. The arborist came and had a lift outside. Everything is set up and waiting for water, electrical, and wifi to be connected before they come back to complete the work. The visitors commission will pay the $5,000 for the arborist but requested the board pay the remaining couple hundred dollars.

Main Street Greensburg requested to use the courthouse square on December 3 for Christmas Activities. This was approved.

The bids were opened for the 2026 general reassessment. There were 3 bids received. This was tabled for further evaluation.
