Decatur County Commissioners Meeting- 2/17/25

The Decatur County Commissioners met on February 17, 2025.

The meeting began with the approval of February 3, 2024, meeting minutes, claims, and payroll claims.

Todd Houk, Highway Department Superintendent updated the commissioners stating that they continue to work on general maintenance, surveying, removing snow and ice in the county. He mentioned that the way the winds were overnight it became impossible to get the roads cleared. They did have to close a few roads per request from 911 overnight. But he stated that those have since been open.

Doug Westerfeld, Area Plan Director received approval to transfer a 2013 minivan with 183,000 miles from the Health Department to the Area Plan office to be used for the blighted property project.

Rob Dehoff, Parks Department updated the commissioners on the Sports Complex. He told them that the City RDC has agreed to provide $100,000 in funding towards the turf project. He said that USSSA is providing $20,000 in funding towards the cost of the fencing. He said that he is working with Bryan Robbins and the Community Foundation to discuss possible funding ideas. Rob stated that he has spoken with several interested entities in the community and shared his wishes to do everything in his power to ensure that the baseball and softball seasons would not be shortened or affected if they do move forward with the turf project. Rob said that he is working to strengthen his and the Parks Department relationship with the City Council.

Brad Speer, EMA provided an update on the EMPG Salary Grant and Multi Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The commissioners voted to purchase a Greensburg Decatur County Chamber of Commerce membership for the Commissioners.

The commissioners signed the Safe Streets 4 All- Zero fatality Resolution which states that they are working to have zero fatality accidents on roads.

The commissioners approved Piene Engineering’s estimate of $6,870 to look at the Air Balance- AHU 2 at the courthouse. This will look at airflow and look at the concerns of different rooms being different temperatures.

The commissioners approved Piene Engineering’s HVAC service agreement with an annual amount of $12,084.

The commissioners received a bid from Bruns & Gutzwiller of $161,000 for caulking the exterior of the courthouse. Due to the high amount of the estimate the commissioners agreed that they would put this out to request bids.

Dr. James Howell came to the commissioners meeting with a petition for Co Rd 1000 E. Dr. Howell requested chip and sealed because the gravel on the roadway gets taken off by the plow when they plow due to snow. He also stated that there are potholes in the road as well. Commissioner Jeremy Pasel asked Todd Houk to have his crew look into the concerns and see what can be done to help correct these concerns.

The commissioners have received applications for the Maintenance position and will move forward with interviews during an Executive Session in the near future.

The commissioners approved the United Fund to use the Courthouse South Lawn and the roadway for strawberry pickup on 6/6/25.
