Greensburg, IN – September 22, 2025, Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) proudly joined the annual Decatur County United Fund Day of Caring on Wednesday, September 17, underscoring the hospital’s ongoing commitment to serving the community.
This community-wide effort unites local businesses and volunteers for short-term, project-focused services benefiting area nonprofit organizations. DCMH team members contributed 24 volunteer hours at the Greensburg-Decatur County Animal Shelter, assisting with care projects that support the well-being of shelter pets awaiting their forever homes.
“At DCMH, our mission is rooted in caring, for our patients, our neighbors, and even the four-legged friends who are part of our community,” said Jenny Simon, DCMH Chief Nursing Officer. “Day of Caring is a tradition that allows us to step outside the walls of the hospital and give back in meaningful ways.”
So far in 2025, DCMH employees have provided over 2,000 volunteer hours, reflecting the hospital’s dedication to its core values. One of DCMH’s four organizational values, Community, serves as a guiding principle: “We contribute positively through community involvement and stewardship of resources, striving to meet the health and wellness needs of the patients we serve, our community, and our team members.”
Day of Caring has become a cherished tradition across Decatur County, with companies and organizations uniting to strengthen local nonprofits through service. For DCMH, participation in events like this reinforces a culture of compassion that extends far beyond healthcare.
“Caring for others doesn’t stop with the people who walk through our hospital doors,” added Mandy Lorhum, Director of the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County. “It’s about showing up wherever there’s a need, whether that’s a patient, a neighbor, or a shelter animal. Together, we’re building a stronger, healthier community.”
