
The most recent school board meeting opened with the swift approval of several routine but important items. Among the first motions passed were the minutes from the April 9, 2025 meeting, as well as the order of payment for claims and payroll.
The board also approved three conference and field trip requests, reflecting continued support for staff development and student enrichment opportunities.
In personnel matters, the board accepted three resignations, acknowledged one retirement, and granted one leave of absence. Additionally, twelve staff appointments were confirmed, including hires for the upcoming summer school session. Two staff terminations were also finalized during the meeting.
One student fundraiser received board approval, and the district accepted $5,105 in donations from community members and organizations, expressing gratitude for the ongoing support.
The board approved the disposal of equipment deemed obsolete, ensuring efficient management of school resources.
The board approved the hire of John Corn as the Principal at North Decatur Elementary School beginning on July 1, 2025. Mr. Corn will be replacing Mr. Rob Smith as he will be retiring June 30, 2025.
The board approved the Five Star Technology Solutions contract.
Jacob Rader, Assistant Principal at SDES provided the monthly update. He said that they had a very successful teacher appreciation celebration last week, thanking the board and administration for attending and serving lunch to the teachers. Jacob stated that grandparent’s day was attended very well estimating 100’s in attendance. Tomorrow evening the 6th grade students will be going on their overnight field trip. The talent show and Academic Awards will be held next Wednesday.
Amy Cockburn, Principal at SD Jr.-Sr. High School provided an update also saying that teacher appreciation went well. She thanked the school’s community partners and support that they receive from the public and local organizations and businesses. She spoke about the 6th graders visiting last week. Amy said that several of her staff attended Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training recently at the corporation’s office. Amy was proud that during a recent blood drive they were able to collect 129 units.
