Decatur County Visitors Commission

The Decatur County Visitors Commission met on Thursday.

Brad Foxx is the new sales director for tourism. Their primary focus is to utilize and maximize the use of the baseball and softball diamonds through travel tournaments. The goal is to solidify everybody involved and all aspects of the diamonds. They find the progress so far encouraging.

John Pratt gave a Bicentennial update. Next week is Veteran’s Week and the goal is to decorate all the local graves of veterans. This Sunday at 2 the Columbus City Band will be holding a concert at the amphitheater. May 28 at 10 am will be the South Park Cemetery Tour. June 4 will be the Underground Railroad Tour.

Erica Gunn and Daniel Fayette gave a marketing update. They have been collaborating with parks for events and continuing to send out the newsletter. The annual report still needs board member headshots before being completed. They hope that board members begin to attend the bicentennial events more frequently.

The Parks and Recreation Department gave an update. They are done with the department building and have been focusing on park upgrades. Currently they are working on St. Paul Park and are hoping to get new equipment to the Newpoint Park. They have been trying to focus more on the outer-lying parks. The board approved their standing line item grant of $12,000.
