From Gold Award to Great Community Resource: Pet Pit Stops Are Here

The wait was paws-itively worth it! Today, the Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter and local Girl Scout Ambassador Elizabeth Walden cut the ribbon and officially unleashed the Pet Pit Stops! Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate!

“The Pet Pit Stops are designed to be a take something, leave something pantry for pets in the community. I hope the community can come together to appreciate and share the boxes with those who may need them,” stated Walden.

“As the Founder and President of the Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter, we are thrilled that we were able to partner with Elizabeth on her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. She was able to take a simple idea and make it a reality in our community,” stated Ramey.

One Pet Pit Stop will be located at the Decatur County Annex Building, 315 S. Ireland Street, and the second will be located at the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library, 1110 E. Main Street, Greensburg, with a third location coming soon.

The funds required to build and assemble the boxes were completely raised by Elizabeth. She also wanted to thank Schreiber Lumber and Sherwin-Williams for their material donations to the project. She also thanked Gary Swinney and her uncle, Larry Webb, for their assistance and the use of their wood shop.

The Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter encourage residents to continue making larger donations directly to the animal shelter, which continues to rely heavily on community support. However, individuals who have a small amount of extra pet food, supplies, or other appropriate items are encouraged to consider donating them to one of the Pet Pit Stops.

A special thank you to the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce for the use of their scissors and ribbon. We also extend a huge thank you to the Decatur County Commissioners and the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library for partnering with us so we can have wonderful, accessible locations for the Pet Pit Stops.

The Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter will continue the ownership and overseeing of the boxes. If you would like to financially support refilling the Pet Pit Stops, please send a check to:
