GCHS Juniors prepare for Work-Based Learning opportunities

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Greensburg Community High School juniors took part in mock interviews with local employers and educators this week.

It was an opportunity for students to practice their skills ahead of real-life Work-Based Learning interviews that will be conducted this spring.

“This is a way for students to get those interview jitters out of the way. They’re nervous, excited and anxious but also know this is a practice run, so when they get to the real interview they will knock it out of the park,” said GCHS Assistant Principal Collin Rigney.

Junior Faith Anderson admitted to being nervous at first but said the interviewers made it relaxing and even offered constructive criticism.

“The hardest part of the interview was talking about myself. You’ve got to think back to everything you have done,” Anderson said.

Miles Mckinsey added, “It was a great experience and I learned a lot about how it will be when I go into an actual interview. I feel much more prepared now to do well.”

The real-life interviews will be conducted with Work-Based Learning partners over the next few months with students expected to earn their placements by May 1.

Interviewers represented various businesses including Decatur County Memorial Hospital, Decatur County Parks & Recreation, Decatur County Purdue Extension, Letts Fire Department, Ferguson Construction, Daisy Doggie Daycare, Economic Development Corp. of Greensburg/Decatur County, St. Mary’s Catholic School, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Agent- Greensburg Office, Leach & Russell Mechanical, and Greensburg Community Schools.
