
The Greensburg Board of Works met on Tuesday.
Veridus Group gave an update on the Municipal Complex Project. They have had bids received for the Fire Station design. There was a meeting held on the Street Department in which they were given an updated design and gave feedback items of their own. The steel had been ordered for the Street Department and will arrive in June or July, which is on target for the project timeline. There will be a groundbreaking event held for the Municipal Complex Project May 13 at 10:30 am.
President of the Tree City Fall Festival Mark Carman requested a change in a street closure date for the Fall Festival. This is for the main stage to be set up on Thursday evening at 6 pm which would result in the corner of Broadway Street and Washington Street being closed a day prior to the initial plan. This was approved. There was a request for a road closure for a neighborhood party on September 9 from 5-10 pm. This would be on W Sheridan Street from Indiana Avenue to Maple Street. This was approved.
Director of Main Street Greensburg Rose Cronely requested a road closure for the second annual Friends of Fred Food Truck Festival. This would be the same as last year from 2:30-10 pm on Saturday June 17. This was approved.
The Mayors Youth Council presented their project on North Park improvements to the board. Their mission is to get the youth’s voice heard in the community this project is important as it helps to fix up a recreational gathering place in the community. The project would consist of resurfacing the basketball court, new backboards, rims, and nets, benches/seating around courts, and landscaping. They are looking for donations currently and have a matching grant that these donations will be matched to. There are several different donation levels in which individuals, businesses, and organizations can become sponsors of the project with different “perks” for each level of donation. Their goal is to create a safe place to play and relax while supporting and benefiting not only our community, but visitors as well. They are requesting $5,000 from the board to be put toward their matching grant. The board was very impressed with their presentation and approved the request.
Police Chief Mike McNealy presented a new draft of policies for the board to review. The board approved for May 4 to meet with the top 3 applicants for interviews for hire.
Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer requested to dispose of surplus equipment, old Fire Inspector Dodge Charger, via sealed bid. This was approved. The board approved for a temporary change in policy for the fire station. This is to change the way they staff the fire house due to shortages and should last no longer than 2 months. The board approved for candidates 1 and 2 to receive conditional offers of employment.
