
Greensburg Board of Works met on Tuesday.
Veridus Group have the monthly on the Municipal Complex Project. The North tobacco barn has been fully demolished and the topsoil on the site is stripped. Both pads are on schedule and the retention pond excavation has begun. They are digging footers for the Fire Station and aiming for July for the structural steel. They plan to mobilize for the Street Department at the end of the month and are starting foundation work in July. There was a drone video presented to show the progress at the site.
Liz Owens with Tri Kappa presented the road closures for the 4th of July parade. This is the same as previous year. The parade will begin at 10 am and they would like to have the road closed by 9 am on the Fourth of July. There was no police concerns. This was approved.
Sheri Slaven with Caleb’s Cause presented the road closures for the Caleb’s Cause 5K. This is for the Caleb Brown Memorial 5K which will take place on the same weekend as the Fall Festival. There will be no real road closures, as they have police that will help direct traffic at crossing points. The route is basically the same as last year, with one small reroute due to the municipal project construction. The race will begin at 8 am and there are no police concerns. This was approved.
Chris Raimey presented the road closures for the Fair Parade. This is the same route as last year and there are no police concerns. This was approved.
Police Chief Mike McNealy presented the Standard Operating Procedure. This was approved.
Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer opened sealed bids for the Dodge Charger. The Mayor requested that these be taken under advisement because there may be a second city use possibility for the car. This will be discussed at next months meeting. This was tabled. June 20 at 7 pm there will be a Fire Department Recognition event at City Hall.
Building Office Assistant Amber Coyne presented a grass violation appeal for 300 E First Street. John Hullman stated that the situation was rectified and doesn’t understand why they got the letter. They have been mowing their grass however their mower had been broken for the 3 weeks leading up to the letter. The current penalty would last for the next 3 years. The board believes that this penalty is a bit extreme for a single violation and were told that the ordinance is under review currently. The board did not approve a determination of no violation due to further review of the ordinance.
Street Commissioner Mark Klosterkemper gave a summary on Heavy Trash 2023. They were down on volume by about 100 tons this year due to the elimination of construction debris. They were able to complete their routes from 7 am-4 pm, with no overtime costs. There were only 4-5 violations found and they can see no necessary changes that need to be made. The CCMG bid was opened. The board approved the bid from Pavement Solutions Inc. for $263,018.
Wastewater Superintendent Zeke Smith presented the Burke Contract. This is for MS4 requirements from IDEM. The contract was approved. The RAS station quote was presented. They had one RAS pump break down at the plant. They found a company who let them loan one until they got the replacement pump in and they would like to purchase the replacement for $21,500. This was approved. There was a discussion on the Davidson Street lift station repair. Last month they did an inspection and the wet well was spraying everywhere. The station is 50-60 years old and they would like to repair it as well as bring it to todays standards, as it is currently bolted to the floor which is not safe or sanitary. The board approved for Indiana Pump Works to do the lift station repairs for $23,400.
Mayor Josh Marsh presented the HVAC preventative maintenance contract. This is an annual agreement with their contractor for routine maintenance. This was approved for $7,500. The Yodel Community Calendar was presented. This is a user based content generation site that will be going live on Saturday. It is a one stop spot for events in the community.
The board thanked the water department team who worked nonstop for 32 hours to fix the leak on Broadway.
