The city of Greensburg Board of Works met this evening at 5:30 p.m. The board approved the minutes from the December 9 regular meeting and the January 12 executive session. All claims presented were approved, and the meeting was adjourned.
The city of Greensburg City Council meeting began at 6:30pm this evening. They approved their December 12th regular meeting minutes.
The council approved Ordinance 2025-20 to amend 2010-2016 on its second reading. The council also approved Ordinance 2025-19 amending Ordinance 2025-12. This was concerning the City Salary Ordinance.
The council members approved all 2026 encumbrances and to take all uncleared checks from 2023 off of the books.
The council approved a lease agreement to be entered into between the City of Greensburg and Decatur County Solid Waste Management for a full-time recycling location. Mayor Marsh emphasized that this is a 10-year lease that is not an automatic renewal. He further pointed out this allows for the Greensburg Police Department to utilize one of the buildings on the property and allows the opportunity for future expansion of the GPD if needed after that lease is fulfilled.
Jaime Cain was re-elected to serve as Council President during 2026.
Jaime Cain took some time to speak to his fellow council members during the meeting to state that he would like to acknowledge the letters and emails that they have received concerning the annexation approval of a property in 2024. Cain pointed out that the request was a super voluntary annexation. He spoke about the property being marketed for 15 years before the current owners purchased the property. Jaime went on to list a few of the concerns that have been brought forth to the council and took time to address each one. Jaime also explained that currently no board or commission within the city has any request or items related to this project currently in front of them.
The City Council meeting was standing room only with approximately 40-50 attendees that were not council members or staff. I had the opportunity to speak with one individual that stated that even though the proposed data center was not on the agenda she felt that it was good to ensure that the council and the mayor feel the opposition’s presence at the meetings.

Greensburg Police Department Chief Mike McNealy swore in Police Officer Lucas Schmidt. Officer Schmidt comes as a lateral hire from the Brookville Police Department. He is from Greensburg and went to school here. Officer Schmidt began his Law Enforcement career as a Detention Deputy here in Decatur County. It has been his wish to return to patrol and protect the community that he grew up in.
