The Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter reached an exciting milestone today, as staff traveled to Dayton, OH, to pick up their newly wrapped transport van, a vital asset that will enhance their animal rescue and outreach efforts. The van, although used, has been given a fresh new look with a custom wrap and is now ready to serve the community thanks to a generous grant awarded earlier this year.
The grant, received in April, was made possible by Best Friends Animal Society in partnership with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. This funding not only allowed the shelter to secure the transport van but also covers essential insurance and maintenance costs, ensuring the shelter can keep the van operational for years to come. No county funding was needed to secure the van.
The acquisition of this van marks a significant achievement for the shelter, which applied for the grant earlier in the year. It will play a crucial role in transporting animals for adoptions, rescue missions, veterinary appointments, and community outreach events. Additionally, the van’s brand-new wrap proudly represents the shelter’s mission and visibility within the community.
Shelter Director Minde expressed excitement about how the van will expand their operations. “This transport van opens up new opportunities for us to provide better care for the animals in our shelter and to be more efficient in our rescue efforts. We are incredibly grateful to Best Friends Animal Society and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton for their support in making this possible.”
The van will immediately be put to use, helping to transport animals to and from off-site adoption events, spay & neuter appointments, and rescue operations. With this new resource, the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter is better equipped to continue its work in improving the lives of animals in the region.
