Greensburg Fire Department Recognition Ceremony

This is the second annual recognition. Mayor Marsh is excited for the entire department as they look toward the future and build the best fire department in Southeastern Indiana.

Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer presented the Lifesaving Awards. This award went to individuals who showed courage and beat the grim statistics of out of hospital cardiac arrests. The first recipient is Anthony Bruce who gave a successful resuscitation at the OSL cafeteria to Cathy Jordan who went into cardiac arrest on May 24,2021, just 2 weeks before her retirement. The next recipients were Cory Fischer, Curtis Lewis, David Eckstein, and Nathan Stoermer. They all successful saved the life of James Mills II who went into cardiac arrest in his driveway on February 3, 2022. After 20 minutes of active resuscitation, they were able to bring back a heartbeat. Tausha Mills received a civilian lifesaving award due to her resuscitation efforts before help arrived.

The fire department recognized all department members. The fire department recognized Rick Emsweller and Bob Brown who are both retired firefighters of over 30 years. Jordan Boundurant and Josh Hengesbach were recognized as new hires to the fire department.

Cory Fischer was promoted to a first class firefighter. Fisher started his career in June of 2019 at the Rushville Fire Department and was hired at Greensburg Fire Department in March of 2021. The department looks forward to his many years of service to come.

Brad Tressler was recognized for his 23 years of service to the Greensburg Fire Department. Tressler started as a volunteer in 1991 and has been a career firefighter since July of 1998. Tressler was hooked on being a firefighter since New Year’s Eve of 1993 when he volunteered to work overnight and successful stopped a house fire in the early morning hours.

Curtis Lewis was promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations. Lewis started in 2008 and his dedication has been vital and appreciated by the department.

Troy Harmon was promoted to Captain of Day Shift. Harmon began his firefighting career in January of 2000.

Jarrod Prentice was promoted to the Lieutenant of Day Shift. Prentice has been a valuable asset to the Greensburg Fire Department.

The first annual Firefighter of the Year Award went to Donnathon Buckley. This was voted on by his peers who say that he constantly is stepping up and volunteering. Buckley is a fourth generation firefighter who has huge involvement at such a young age. Buckley said that he always knew that he was going to be a firefighter.
