The long missing bison has returned to the courthouse square. Oh, the stories of where it went kept many wondering. Actually, it kind of became a “Where’s Waldo” Decatur County style.
He is back standing guard in it’s original spot on the courthouse square.
The bison was originally part of the Bison-tennial Public Art Project. The Bison was painted by artists Marci Ping and Lauren Reed with local landmarks and scenes when it was first placed in 2016. Researching the origin of the bison it looks like it was purchased by Visit Greensburg, United Fund, and the City of Greensburg.
After being on the square for several years it was time for an upgrade. That is when a team of local individuals worked to get the bison restored.
Decatur County Council President Danny Peters and Vice President Bill Metz contacted Ryan Walterman and asked for his help in getting the bison restored. Ryan happily agreed working on the bison for almost a year. Ryan did all of the work and bought all of the supplies as a donation to the county.
Danny and Bill wanted to ensure that the bison was restored and placed back at the courthouse square for years to come.
I went out to get a quote from the bison, but apparently he’s a bit of a quiet type. He just stood there, looking majestic, and didn’t have a single thing to say!
