Late Ballot Vacancy Opens for Decatur County Council District

A vacancy has opened for a Decatur County Council seat representing Greensburg precincts 6, 7 and 8, along with Washington Township.

Under Indiana law, the vacancy will be filled by the Republican Party chairman through an appointment process.

Interested candidates must reside within the district and have a primary voting history showing participation in two consecutive Republican primary elections. Applicants are asked to submit a resume, letter of interest, or other supporting documents by email to nharter10@gmail.com no later than 5 p.m. Friday, October 30.

Over the weekend following the application deadline, the party chairman will consult with precinct chairs representing the district. The successful candidate will be appointed on the Monday before Election Day.

The appointed individual will not appear on the November ballot but will assume the position of Decatur County Council member on January 1st, 2027, as there is no opposing-party candidate for the seat.

This information was provided by Republican County Chair Nate Harter.
