NDES teaches about Decatur County United Fund and Nonprofits

From Decatur County United Fund

[Greensburg -Decatur County United Fund is proud to announce the North Decatur Elementary School’s sixth grade nonprofit creative talents! In November, Mrs. Anna Kramer the North Decatur Sixth Grade reading teacher contacted Decatur County United Fund to request a presentation about nonprofits and how they raise funds. November and December are times of giving and she wanted to highlight nonprofits and what they do to give back to their communities.

The students wrote a donation letter with a brochure of a fundraiser idea for the nonprofit of their choice. North Decatur teachers chose the top ten fundraising ideas and Decatur County United Fund selected the top three from those ten.

“It is a great experience for young people to learn about nonprofits and what they do to help our community. These three ideas will be shared with the nonprofits they chose for potential fundraiser ideas,” Joane Cunningham states, “Seeing young people giving new ideas and writing donation letters to a business is a great starting point in giving back to the community.”

“As a life-long member of Decatur County, I have seen the amazing work of non-profit organizations and the impact they have within our community! It was a joy to see how the students interacted with this information as well and the discussions that were had within our classroom. I would describe the creativity that these students had when planning their own fundraising events as remarkable. From the beautiful brochures to the ‘perfectly’ planned event, the students went above and beyond expectations. This was a great opportunity to get students more involved in our community, with the hopes that it will foster even more involvement later in life!” Mrs. Kramer said.

Ellie Kinker, Lennon Hancock, Olivia Vaughn were recognized on January 23rd for their creative talent and received gift cards to celebrate at Culver’s restaurant.
