Upon joining Venture Crew, these young women started at the Venturing Rank. Through hard work and dedication, they have now advanced to the Discovery Rank. Elizabeth Walden, Victoria Gauck, and Isabella Taylor achieved this milestone, and the local Venture Crew chapter is proud of their remarkable progress and commitment.

Assistant Advisor Carrie Walden stated, “These ladies achieved many accomplishments to receive Discovery Rank including many community service hours, camping, leadership training, high adventure trip to the Boundary Waters, setting and completing personal goals, etc. They are wilderness first aid trained, they can plan and execute events, they have grown in confidence, public speaking, leadership and supporting each other. They would be amazing young women without being Venture Crew Scouts, however, they are even better for their time spent in the Crew.”

I had the opportunity to get quotes from each of the ladies earning these rank advancements-

Elizabeth Walden, “Venture Crew has taught me that leadership is a constant journey. Although I also attended NYLT last summer, being the president of the Crew and getting to grow alongside my friends has shown me that everyone is on their own journey and learning as they go. It’s important to be patient and positive even when things get tough. I am really excited to see what new adventures we go on next and to continue to see my friends and myself become more confident leaders and become the people we are meant to be.”

Isabella Taylor, “Venture Crew has taught me how to really stay in contact with myself, others, and nature, as well as how to be a better leader to those around me, especially with being the Vice President. I was really excited to be a member of this new group when it was still an idea, and I am really happy with how everything is turning out. Being close to my friends has been everything with helping me move forward and better the confidence i had in myself, and I really couldn’t have done it without them. One of the biggest things that I have learned with my experiences is just how to live and exist in this loud and modern time, and one way that I am able to achieve this is just to look outside and admire our beautiful world, I really think our trip to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota helped with that.”

Victoria Gauck, “Venture Crew has taught me a lot about outdoors, how to be a better leader, and helped me take the initiative to grow in my faith. I am also the treasurer for Venture Crew, which means I watch over our funds and help decide what we do with them. Being in Venture Crew has helped me to be closer to nature with our trip to the Boundary Waters, where we canoed and lived out there for 6 days. I’m excited to keep learning with my friends and to keep growing in my faith and within myself.”

I took this opportunity to find out more about what the Venture Crew is. The following information was pulled directly from the following website- Learn More | Boy Scouts of America

Venturing is an inclusive program through Scouting America for males and females aged 14-21 (or 13 and completed the 8th grade). It’s operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events for youth.

The Venturing program emphasizes four main areas known as the A-L-P-S model:

  • Adventure – Mentoring, leading, and participating in crew-led adventures.
  • Leadership – Ongoing leadership development through training, mentoring, and hands-on leadership.
  • Personal Growth – Goal-setting in support of personal growth.
  • Service – Leading and participating in community service.
