Brian Wenning presented this award. The award has been given out for 26 years to a Decatur County Firefighter who the optimists believe displays the values of their creed through their work and dedication. This years firefighter of the year award went to Chris Springmeyer. Springmeyer has been a career firefighter since 1996 and strives to be the best and pushes everyone around him to become their best selves. He is considered their go-to guy and is always ready to get things done. Springmeyer accepted this award on behalf of all the people he works with and their positivity. He was inspired to be a firefighter by the opportunity to help people and make an impact.
