Westport Town Council

Westport Town Council met on Monday. The council signed the funeral deeds, payroll vouchers, adjustments, and monthly bills.

The board thanked the service of the Westport Kiwanis Club, Building Community, and Westport Community Fire.

There was an update on the Westport Water Projects. The water plant went online at 1 pm on December 13. They are still working on the startup, but treatment is meeting the tests. They are going to begin to demolish the old plant. The Division B easement issue had been settled. It has been wet which has caused some delays, however they are still moving along. The change order for Thienaman was approved. There was a wastewater update. The surveyor will be out in town to set site control and the rest of the fieldwork will hopefully be started in early January. They are working on the final rate study and ordinance to be presented at the January 2022 town council meeting. The public hearing would then be held at the February meeting.

The executive director for Decatur County Solid Waste came to discuss their facilities. Best Way informed them that they will no longer be able to man their facilities in St. Paul and Westport, however will still service them. This means that they will need to find someone, a county employee, to man the facilities in Westport in order for them to remain open. This would be for 9 hours a week. This was tabled until February.

There was a request made by a neighbor to move the fence to the recycling center for a driveway. This was tabled.

Resolution 2021-7, to settle an issue with property owners, the Browns, was approved.

There were 3 bids received for new police cars. The lowest bid was for North Vernon for $51,064.13. This was approved.

The town Marshall and deputy Marshall contracts were approved. The town attorney contract was approved. The wage and salary ordinance 2021-9 was approved. All water bill adjustments were approved. The nepotism certification was approved.
