Eastern Hancock over North Decatur 27-20 in Varsity Football 08/27/21

The Chargers opened their already COVID truncated schedule on the road in conference play against the Eastern Hancock Royals. The heavily-favorited and senior-led Royals found the scrappy young Chargers to be too much in the first half and the Chargers went into halftime ahead 13-0. After Eastern’s athletic director called a lightning timeout that lasted approximately 45 minutes, the Royals had finally had enough time to come up with a plan to score. Shelving their potential Division 1 quarterback and running back, the Royals instead relied heavily on the back of #10 to claw their way back into the game. Unfortunately, the Chargers allowed the Royals back into the game and the 4th quarter went to the Royals who ultimately won the contest 27-20. The Chargers stepped out on the right foot with Reid Messer carrying the ball for an average of 3.6 yards per carry as part of a committee of Charger running backs that had 6 different ball carriers over the course of the contest. Young QB, Carson Parmer was 13 of 26 with 1 interception. Defensively, the Chargers contained the explosive Swan, who was only 7 of 12 with 2 interceptions but could not contain the multiple running threats that the Royals brought to bear. The Chargers walk away from a close contest in which they had an opportunity to win with multiple areas to address as the season progress. The Chargers continue conference play next week against the Monroe Central Golden Bears. Eastern Hancock will be on the road in conference play against the Wes-Del Warrior
