Carmen Thackery collected four hits in five at bats, but North Decatur Varsity Chargers lost to South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars 8-6 on Friday. Thackery singled in the first inning, doubled in the eleventh inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the ninth inning. North Decatur Varsity Chargers lost despite outhitting South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars 16 to nine. Thackery led North Decatur Varsity Chargers with four hits. North Decatur Varsity Chargers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. North Decatur Varsity Chargers first got on the board when Thackery singled, scoring one run. South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a walk by Dalilah Martin, and a ground out by Lydia Witkemper. South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars captured the lead, 5-2, in the top of the fourth after Witkemper grounded out, Raegan Benge singled to the left side of the infield, and Lilly Murray walked, each scoring one run. Brooklyn White singled to right field, which helped North Decatur Varsity Chargers tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the eleventh, South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars broke up the tie when Witkemper doubled, scoring two runs. Then a fielder’s choice by Riley Benge followed to extend the lead to 8-5. Benge earned the win for South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars. The hurler allowed 16 hits and six runs (five earned) over 11 innings, striking out seven and walking four. White took the loss for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. The starting pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking 13. North Decatur Varsity Chargers accumulated 16 hits in the game. Kendall Hostkoetter provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led North Decatur Varsity Chargers with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-6 on the day. Libby Crawford, Madison Rohls, and White each collected multiple hits for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. Rohls and Thackery each stole multiple bases for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. North Decatur Varsity Chargers stole six bases in the game. Witkemper provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars with four runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-5 on the day. Benge led South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars with four hits in four at bats. Martin led South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 15 walks for the game. Benge, Benge, and Martin each stole multiple bases for South Decatur Varsity Lady Cougars.
