
The Greensburg Cross-country teams competed in the 11th Annual Duke Meyer Classic Saturday morning on the campus of Hanover College. Madison had three top ten finishers and won the boys’ competition with 44 pts. The Pirates scored 104 pts and placed 4th out of 15 teams. Their record now stands at 65-21 after seven meets.
Greensburg had two medalists in the boys’ race. Senior Xavier Cassis was the top finisher taking 7th place in 17:18.1. Quinton Walker placed 14th overall in 17:31.7. Henry Corya was 29th in 19:01.8, and teammate Conner Bedel took 36th in a time of 19:32.2. Jackson Tekulve placed 41st with a time of 19:41.8. Junior Patrick Robbins recorded his personal best time of 19:48.3 and was 43rd in the race. Ethan Clifford earned 49th place in 20:12.3. Other finishers for Greensburg included Xavier Wade (51st in 20:25.2), Luke Dwenger (52nd in 20:25.4), Noah Grossman (53rd in a personal best of 20:32.0), Oliver Corya (54th in 20:40.9), Malakai Nicolaides (58th in 20:51.9), Dante Hess (67th in 22:04.7), and Zayden Mathews (89th in 28:45.5).
Jennings County won the girls’ race on Saturday morning edging Hanover Southwestern by a score of 51 to 54. The Lady Pirates took third place out of 13 schools. They now have a record of 61-27 for 2025. Greensburg’s top two finishers were freshmen. Eleanor Davis took the lead after 3 km and was the individual champion in a time of 19:30.7. Lulu Webb also placed in the top ten taking sixth place in 21:15.4. Junior Alaina Bedel was a medalist as well. The junior finished 19th overall with a time of 22:36.6.
Alli Bedel earned 29th place in 23:59.7. Josie Slaven lowered her personal best time to 24:24.9 as she finished 34th. Chloie Davis was 57th in 28:19.0, and junior Elizabeth Walden placed 73rd in 31:56.5. Both teams raced again next Thursday when the Pirates host 16 other schools in the 52nd Annual Greensburg Invitational. The boys’ race starts at 5:30 pm with the girls’ competition scheduled to start at 6:05.
