Pirates 8th grade basketball squeaked past Benjamin-Rush Mid School, 41-39 in overtime, on Monday.
The game was back-and-forth. There were nine lead changes in the game. Pirates took the lead for good on a two by Max Buening.
Trailing 6-2, Benjamin-Rush Middle School went on a 7-point run to take the lead. Pirates fell behind 15-12 at halftime before claiming victory in the end.
Matthew Fields poured in 10 points in the third quarter as Pirates outscored Benjamin-Rush Middle School 17-11.
Matthew Fields was the leading scorer for Pirates with 17 points. Pirates’s 18-30 shooting on twos was a key factor in the game. Matthew Fields pounded the glass, collecting nine rebounds to lead Pirates. Also contributing for Pirates were Max Buening (11 points), Sam Crowell (9 points), Mason Herpel (2 points), and Colt Mccalvin (2 points).
Next up for Pirates is a game at North Decatur Chargers on Tuesday.
