Greensburg Soccer honors seniors

Greensburg Lady’s Soccer honored their seniors and hosted Triton Central. Seniors this season are Emilee Ernstes, Natalie Kalinowski, Sam Johnson, and Macey Smith. These three ladies have been members of the varsity team all four years of high school and will be missed next season.

The game that followed would prove to be an aggressive match. The Tigers would score the first goal within 11 minutes of the first half. The Pirates would have four shots on goal but would not be able to answer and would go into the half down 1-0.

In the second half, the Tigers would again score in the first 10 minutes taking the score to 2-0. After almost 15 minutes of play into the second half, Freshman Madeline Shrader would fight for a ball that was returned by Senior Captain Emilee Ernstes. Shrader would find the net and give the Pirates their first point of the match. This is Schrader’s first career High School goal.

The Pirates’ second goal would come from a PK from a Triton foul in the penalty box. Senior Captain Macey Smith would take the successful PK attempt bringing the score to 2-2.

The Tigers would score 3 additional goals in the last 5 minutes of the match taking the score to 5-2 at the buzzer.

Despite a total of 15 shots on goal, the Pirates were not able to bring home the win. Shot contributors were Senior Captains Macey Smith, Natalie Kalinowski, and Emilee Ernstes, Junior Shelby Forkert, Sophomore Genevieve Smith, Freshman Madeline Shrader, and Marissa Powers.

Freshman Keeper Emma Hostetler saw 16 shots on goal.

This closes the regular season at 5-9 and the conference at 1-6. The Lady Pirates face Lawrenceburg on Tuesday (10/4) in South Dearborn for the first round of sectional. Game time is 7:30.
