Greensburg Tennis sectional win

From Coach June Rigney

After several days of attempting to play the tennis sectional due to rain, the Lady Pirates took home the hardware early afternoon on Saturday. We started the first round of sectional play against Southwestern Hanover on Thursday, but only Abigail Hoeing had won 6-3, 6-1, and our  #1 doubles team, Ella Chapman and Janae Comer, 6-1 6-2. Southwestern was unable to play on Friday due to graduation, so when we picked things up on Saturday morning at 9:00, our #2 doubles team of Morgan Cain and Hailey Duerstock won 6-0 6-4 and then like dominoes, Josie Nobbe won @ #3 singles won 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, followed by #1 singles Jenna Foster, 6-0, 6-4.  We defeated Southwestern Hanover 5-0. At 11:30, we faced Jennings County for the championship. Winning handily was our #2 doubles team of Morgan Cain and Hailey Duerstock 6-2 6-1 and shortly after that match completed, Josie Nobbe won @ #2 singles 6-0 6-0. The other three matches were battles. Ella Chapman and Janae Comer at #1 doubles, lost the first set 3-6 and then they turned it around to give us the point we needed, winning 6-2 6-3. Abigail Hoeing beat a very solid opponent at #2 singles winning 6-1 6-4. Jenna Foster @ #1 singles lost the first set to a hard hitting opponent 3-6, but she found a way to come out on top, taking the next two sets 6-3 6-2 to seal our championship match 5-0. This team plays with such heart, and grit. They overcome obstacles on the court and find a way to win. I love their attitudes.  With these two wins, we are now 15-2 and play on Tuesday at Bloomington South High School in the regional.
