
The Chargers opened their 25-26 campaign with a resounding victory over their cross-county rivals to retain the coveted Civil War Bucket trophy. The Chargers struck quickly in the first possession on a 46-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Matthew Field to senior wide receiver Eli Trenkamp. The onslaught continued from there, with the Chargers finding the end zone three more times in the first quarter and twice more in the second. The Chargers rushed for 183 yards on 22 carries for an average of 8.3 yards per carry. Senior captain Corbin Thackery led the rushing attack with 64 yards on 9 carries. The Chargers also balanced their run game with a solid aerial attack. Fields was 7 of 9 for 135 yards and zero interceptions.
Trenkamp and senior captain Hunter Meister led the Chargers in reception. Defensively, the Chargers held the Cougars to 8 yards on 30 carries on the ground and 5 yards net passing for the night. The Cougars had 0 earned first downs for the evening. Hunter Meister and Eli Trenkamp led the Chargers in tackles. The Chargers also sparkled in the special teams phase of the game. Corbin Thackery had 156 yards on 4 punt returns with two touchdowns. The Chargers ended the evening with 353 yards of offense and 188 yards on punt returns. The boys in blue will travel to Eastern Hancock this coming Friday to face the Royals.
