North Decatur Varsity Chargers couldn’t keep up with Union County and fell 17-4 on Tuesday.
North Decatur Varsity Chargers got on the board in the first inning after Libby Crawford grounded out, scoring one run.
Union County flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on zero hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a ground out by Mackinzey Carter that drove in two.
Union County scored seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the second inning. Carter doubled, scoring one run, Natalie Long singled, scoring two runs, Kaiyd Burroughs grounded out, scoring one run, Addison Shepler singled, scoring one run, and Harly Pilgrim singled, scoring two runs.
Union County extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI doubles by Campbell Meier and Braylen Rudnick.
North Decatur Varsity Chargers made the score 17-4 in the top of the fifth inning when Elizabeth Meister singled, scoring one run, and Madison Rohls homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Brooklyn White pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. The righty allowed 11 hits and 11 runs while, striking out one and walking seven. Kendall Hostkoetter led things off in the circle for North Decatur Varsity Chargers. The starter allowed zero hits and six runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking four. Kamora Klingman started the game for Union County. The pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking none.
Number eight hitter, White, showed the depth of North Decatur Varsity Chargers’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats. Rohls went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.
Union County collected 11 hits in the game. Ally Gray, Pilgrim, and Addisyn Schneider each collected two hits for Union County. Long, Pilgrim, Carter, and Meier each drove in two runs for Union County. Rudnick led Union County with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. Carsyn Garrett stole two bases. Union County stole six bases in the game. Union County were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Pilgrim had the most chances in the field with six.
North Decatur Varsity Chargers will travel to Morristown for their next game on Thursday
