

On Saturday morning, the GJHS Pirates competed in the Columbus North Rick Weinheimer Invitational held at Ceraland Park. The competitive race featured 272 participants in the girls’ race and 326 participants in the boys’ race.
Maria Scholle headlined the Pirates outing taking third place in a time of 10:39.33. This time replaces the 10:44 school record held by Brenner Hanna. Scholle was followed by Hadley Davis, who ran a PR 11:42 to take 12th place. Next, Ava Doig placed 111th with a PR of 13:32 while Hayden Saylor placed 118th with a PR 13:37. Isabelle Macku rounded out the scoring five, taking 184th in a PR 14:54. Also for the Pirates were Violet Macku in 16:36, Noelle Kern in 16:37, and Sarita Walker in 16:47. The girls’ team finished 14 out of 23 teams.
In the boys’ race, three Pirates broke the 12-minute barrier for the first time. Kason Bedel led the team with 11:36 to take 84th place. He was followed by Miles Gill in 105th (11:54) and Elliott O’Sullivan in 111th (11:58). The next athletes to cross the line were Luke Harris and Easton Character, both running PRs of 12:41. Liam Hernandez and Konnor Luers also finished within a second of each other, both running a PR time of 13:15. Also for the Pirates were Collin Rich (14:05), Samuel Black (14:25), Preston Meadows (17:31), and Rylan Herpel (18:05).
The Pirates will race again Tuesday at East Central.
