Scholle wins Columbus Central Classic

On Tuesday evening, the Pirates competed in the Columbus Central Classic held at Ceraland Park. The event featured athletes from 13 schools. The GJHS girls’ team placed 8th, with the boys’ team taking 9th.

In the girls’ race, Maria Scholle led the field, taking 1st place with a sub-11-minute time of 10:58. Also breaking the top 10 was Hadley Davis in 8th place in a time of 11:45. Next for the Pirates were Ava Doig and Hayden Saylor, taking 48th and 49th place, both setting PRs (13:31 and 13:32, respectively). Rounding out the Pirates scoring 5 was Isabelle Macku with a time of 15:27. Also for the Pirates were Sarita Walker and Voilet Macku, both running PR times of 15:34. In the JV race, Noelle Kern ran 16:16.

In the boys’ race, Elliott O’Sullivan led the Pirates taking 33rd place in a new PR time of 11:23. He was followed by Kason Bedel, who took 35th place in a PR time of 11:28. Also setting a new PR time was Miles Gill in 40th place with a time of 11:42. Liam Hernandez dropped over 40 seconds from his personal best time, running 12:03 to take 48th place. Also for the Pirates were Luke Harris in a PR of 12:32, Easton Character in a PR of 12:35, and Konnor Luers in 13:23. In the JV race, Collin Rich and Samuel Black both ran new PRs of 13:15 and 13:25, respectively. Preston Meadows (17:45) and Rylan Herpel (17:56) rounded out the Pirates squad. 

The team is back in action at home next Monday for the EIAC Championship race.
