Ann Shazer, 89

Ann Elizabeth (Smith) Shazer, of Greensburg, IN, passed away surrounded by loving family on
September 1, 2024, at the age of 89, after a long illness of dementia. She was the daughter of Robert
Barlow Smith and Verner Harrison Cochrane Smith of Chester, WV.
Ann cherished the memory of her beloved late husband, Thomas DeWitt Shazer of Greensburg,
Indiana, where now together they watch over beloved children: Suzann Meyer, Lynn (Rick) Bewley, Lisa
(Claudio) Baserga, Melissa (James) Six-Westerfeld, Gretchen Lutes, Thomas D Shazer Jr (Judy), Anne
Reynolds, Janet Shazer; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sister Gretchen (Lee) Snyder; and
several nieces and nephews. 
Ann graduated in 1953 from Chester WV High School and attended Marshall University. In 1957,
Ann married her high school sweetheart, Franklin Delano “Dyke” Six. They moved to Hopkins, MN;
Seattle, WA; and then to Greensburg, IN in 1968 where they raised their family. 
Ann worked at Todd’s Mens & Ladies Apparel shop in Greensburg for over 11 years, Decatur
County Area Plan & Building Commission, Organist at the Greensburg United Methodist Church for over
30 years. She was dedicated to her faith as a member of Greensburg UMC since 1968, helping those in
need through the UMC Ruth Circle, UMC Emmaus Community, Women Arts & Culture Counsel, Decatur
County Historical Society, Decatur County Hospital volunteer, and she worked with the Aim Program for
Big Brothers Big Sisters. She had many hobbies, such as: cooking and baking, interior decorating, ironing,
entertaining, gardening and keeping in touch with family and friends. She had a love for music including:
playing her Steinway Piano, concerts, and beautiful music piped throughout the house. 
Ann is preceded in death by her second husband, Thomas DeWitt Shazer (d. 2009); first
husband, Franklin Delano “Dyke” Six (d. 2017); grandsons Keith Meyer and Tasio Baserga; her parents;
and her sister: Lynn (James) Boyd.
Services will be held at Greensburg United Methodist Church:
Visitation: Sunday, September 8, 3-7pm
Funeral Service: Monday, September 9, 10am
Gravesite Services following at South Park Cemetery, Greensburg IN.
In lieu of flowers, Ann had asked that memorial contributions be made to Greensburg United
Methodist Church, 812-663-LOVE (5683) or office@greensburgumc.com, IU Simon Cancer Center,
Margaret Mary Hospice, or Our Hospice of Southern Indiana.
