Betty Lee (Jackson) White

Betty Lee (Jackson) White, age 101 of Bloomington, IN, died on February 22, 2021 at her residence.  Born November 6, 1919 on the Burney Homestead north of Burney, Indiana. She was the daughter of Burney S. and Zelpha (Galbraith) Jackson.

     She graduated from Burney High School and from Ball State Teachers College, where she received a degree in Elementary Education.  She played trumpet in the Ball State Marching Band.  She was a home-maker, a school teacher at Burney School and later Sandcreek School in Decatur County where she was president of the Parent Teacher Association and Band Parents Organization.

     She married Roland L. White April 13, 1941 and they celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries.  She was a talented musician serving as organist over 40 years of the Westport Methodist Church, Sunday school teacher, choir member, choir director, and in many offices.  She was a Girls’ 4-H leader several years and a former member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. 

     She was preceded in death by her husband Roland L. White.  She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (Howard) Davis of near Muncie, Janet (James) Ault of Bloomington, and Rosalie White of Bloomington, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild, several step-great-grandchildren, and a sister Marilyn Corey of Alabama.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert Jackson, Edwin Jackson, Burney Jr Jackson, a sister JoAnn Miers, and grandson Michael Davis.

     Services will be open to family members only due to the COVID-19 virus on Saturday, February 27th at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with visitation at 11:00 am and service at 1:00 pm. Rev. Dawn Barnes will be officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.   Online condolences can be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com
