Beverly Dean Gatewood, 88

Beverly Dean Gatewood, 88, passed away after a brief illness at 11:28 am on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  She was born on May 15, 1933 to Frank Raymond McCullough and Helen (Whalen) McCullough; both of whom preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her two beloved brothers, Jack Vernon (Farene) McCullough and Maurice Nelson (Margaret) McCullough.  Beverly married Clem Gatewood on December 1, 1951; he preceded her in death on September 30, 2017 after nearly 66 years of marriage.  Over the years, she was a tremendous helper and partner in his residential construction business.  She was a lifelong resident of Westport and dearly loved her life on the family farm south of town.  She took great pride in keeping an immaculate home, sparing no detail both inside and out.  She particularly enjoyed working out in her yard and taking care of her various dogs over the years.  A woman of varied interests, she excelled at many crafts such as pottery and ceramics, quilting, sewing, crocheting, and macramé to name a few.  However, her greatest love was for the LORD, as was evident by her lifelong membership and faithful attendance at the Westport Wesleyan Church.  We can all take great comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of her LORD and Savior.  Beverly’s pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was the devout and loving mother to five children, all of whom survive:  Steve (Linda) Gatewood (Sheridan, IN); Larry (Mary) Gatewood (King George, VA); Terry (Jackie) Gatewood (Fayetteville, TN); Julie (Larry) Hayden (New Market, AL); and Barry (Annalee) Gatewood (Bloomfield, IN).  She has 15 surviving grandchildren: Erika (David) Brown, Brenna (Craig) Durbin, Patrick Gatewood, James Gatewood, Sean Gatewood, Rachel Gatewood, Graham Gatewood, Jared Hayden, Leah Hayden, Jacob Hayden, Sarah Gatewood, Eleanor Gatewood, Priscilla Gatewood, Edward Gatewood, and Lewis Gatewood.  Two grandchildren, Angela Gatewood and Kelly Jo Gatewood, preceded her in death.  She has four surviving great-grandchildren: Peyton Brown, Ethan Brown, Lucas Durbin, and Landon Durbin. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport, IN.  After the service, she will be laid to rest at the Westport Cemetery beside her husband Clem.  A time of visitation will be held prior to the funeral on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 12:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are recommended. Online condolences can be made the family at www.bassgasper.com
