Dennis “Denny” Brian Doerflinger, 89

Dennis “Denny” Brian Doerflinger, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on March 29, 1935, in Greensburg, Indiana, he was the son of Edward and Vivian (Stout) Doerflinger. Denny spent his childhood in Greensburg and Downeyville, forming deep roots in the community that would remain with him throughout his life.

Denny was united in marriage to Joan (Benz) Doerflinger on September 12, 1959. After Joan’s passing, he married Carol (Siefker) Doerflinger on June 7, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, and his cherished children: Sonya Doerflinger of Greensburg, Barbara (John) Fagan of Indianapolis, and Ann (David) Hathaway of Brownsburg. Denny also leaves behind his stepdaughter, Barbara (Derek) Jacobs, grandchildren: Mark (Emily) Moriarity, Joseph (Emily) Moriarity, Ellen Moriarity, Gail Moriarity, Scott Hathaway, Kyle Hathaway, Claire Hathaway, and Cara Jacobs, great-grandchildren, Lucille Moriarity and Theodore Hathaway, and many nieces and nephews.

Denny was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1955 to 1957, a period he spoke of with great honor. His career spanned over five decades, with a distinguished tenure as a sales and financial advisor for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Denny also had a rich history in the restaurant industry, where he worked as a chef and manager at the Sherman House and the Elks Club, and was a former co-owner of The Beverage House.

Outside of his professional life, Denny was known for his many passions. He was an avid enthusiast of Corvettes, model trains, traveling, and woodworking, often spending his free time indulging in these hobbies. He was also a dedicated member of the VMCCA, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he contributed to lay ministries.

Denny is preceded in death by his younger brother, James (Sheila) Doerflinger, and his parents, Edward and Vivian Doerflinger.

Denny’s legacy lives on through his family and the many people whose lives he touched. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his love for his family was unmatched. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his strong work ethic, and his genuine love for life.

Family and friends will gather to pray the rosary on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensburg, with visitation following from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held following the time of visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Father John Meyer officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the charity of your choice in Denny’s memory.
