Dennis Newland, 83

Dennis Orville Newland, 83, of Greensburg, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Willows of Greensburg. He was born on August
25, 1940 in Elizabethtown, Indiana the son of Merton Orville and Ruby Bernice
(Giberson) Newland. He graduated from Bartholomew County Consolidated Schools in

  1. He had worked for the Indiana Mentor Direct Services Professional Health
    Care and had been a central office switchman for Indiana Bell for 26 years. He
    was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He was a
    veteran having served 8 years in the Air Force and 4 years in the Army Reserves.
    He was a surrogate grandfather at South Decatur and Greensburg Elementary
    Schools. Dennis was an Elder and played in the praise band at Waynesburg
    Christian Church and Westport Christian Church. Dennis married Shirley Marie
    McMillian on November 10, 1979 in Elizabethtown, Indiana and she survives. Other
    survivors include his daughters, Donna (Michael) Cole of Winston Salem, North
    Carolina, Kristina (John) Battle of Wilksboro, North Carolina and Marie Lynn
    Crouch of Shelbyville, his sons, Jay Thomas (Karla) Crouch of St. Paul, Ted Lee
    (Betty) Crouch of Shelbyville, Patrick Sean (Dawn) Newland of Huber Heights,
    Ohio, David Prescott (Tesica) Newland of Greensburg; sister, Phyllis (Carmen)
    Kelsey of Springville; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was
    preceded in death by his parents; son, Brent Howard Crouch; brother, Steven
    Newland. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024
    at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor George Willette
    officiating. Burial will follow at Milford Cemetery with Military graveside
    rites. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8 from 4:00 p.m.
    until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the
    Westport Christian Church or Kairos Ministry through the funeral home. Online
