James “Jim” Elder, 56

James “Jim” Elder, 56 of Greensburg, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 28th.  Jim was born on August 21, 1965 in Decatur County, the son of Albert “Al” and Margaret “Ella” (Lehman) Elder.

Most recently Jim was a Technical Support Specialist at Batesville High School. He had left this position to take care of his mother when she fell ill last year.  Since she has been at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg, he visited her every day, made sure she had everything she needed and brought her joy every day.  She will miss him terribly.

To those that knew him well, Jim was known for his heart.  He was a tall, big guy with tattoos that could look intimidating, but he had a heart of gold. He cared about others more than himself and was never interested in material things. He would give you his last dollar if you needed it.  He changed careers successfully a few times, including working as a District Manager for Napa Auto Parts, owning his own Heating & Air business and then going back to school studying computer information technology.

Growing up in Batesville, he played little league and wrestled. He also played in a local rock band in high school, playing bass guitar but could also play lead.  To this day, he enjoyed playing guitars and spent many hours playing, reading about different music types and music legends.  He was loved by many people, especially his family and extended friend family.

Survivors include his two children, Luca and Alex Elder of Texarkana TX, his mother Ella and his sister Julie (John) Smartz of Los Angeles, CA.  Jim was preceded in death by his father Albert who passed away in August 2020.
