Jean Marie Hoffman, 75 of Greensburg passed away on April 3, 2023. She was born on May 20, 1947 in Clay County, Indiana the daughter of Wilbur R. and Gladys Modesitt Hoffman. Jean was a 1965 graduate of Clay City Jr. Sr. High School. She got her Bachelors and Master’s Degrees from Indiana State University. Jean was a teacher for 40 years at the Greensburg High School; she was a Follies Director and Cheerleading Coach. She retired in 2010 but remained a proud Pirate Sports Fan. Jean was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, where she held many local and state offices, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Retired Teachers Association, CLEO (Classy Ladies Eating Out), and the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: Nephew, Hershel Sweet, Jr. of Washington, Indiana; Niece, Michelle (Tim) Mitchell of Bloomington, Indiana; and Great Nephew, Bryant Sweet. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Sister, Janet Sweet; Brother in Law, Hershel Sweet; and Niece in Law, Carrie Sweet.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Thursday, April 6th, 2023 from 2:00 pm until the time of the Order of Eastern Star Service at 6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be Friday, April 7th 2023 at 10:00 am also at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Rev. Garrett and Marena Vittoria- Schindler will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be to Our World of Youth Indiana Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley, Indiana.
