Joseph Knueven, 98

Joseph C. Knueven, 98, of Greensburg, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 8, 1925, in New Alsace, Indiana, the son of John and Leona (Easley) Knueven. Joe attended Guilford High School in Dearborn County. After graduation, Joe served his country in the United States Army. A World War II veteran, Joe served during key moments like Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. His strong patriotism was reflected in his deep appreciation for the American flag.

He married Madeleine (Miller) Knueven on June 7, 1950, and she preceded him in death. He owned and operated IGA in Sunman and Greensburg for many years. Joe was a man who displayed dedication and hard work in every aspect of his life. Joe was a remarkable man who also had a passion for gardening and reading. He was a profound thinker with a sharp mind. His determination and thoughtfulness in both his work and relationships made him an inspiring figure.

Joe is survived by his son: Daniel (Dee) Knueven; daughter: Shirley (Andrew) Beetz; grandchildren: Nick (Melanie) Beetz, Aaron (Maggie) Beetz, Rachel (Brent) Seyer, Alicia (Brian) Beck, Erik (Leann) Knueven; 8 great-grandchildren; sister: Charlene Rauch; and brother: Willard Knueven.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Madeleine; brothers: Clifford Knueven, Howard Knueven, John Knueven Jr., and Monsignor Harold Knueven.

Family and friends will gather to pray the rosary on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 8:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. Visitation will be held following the rosary from 8:15 am to 10:00 am. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am with Father John Meyer officiating. Burial will take place at St. Martin Church Cemetery Yorkville / 8044 Yorkridge Rd, Guilford, IN on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 9:00 am with Rev. Jonathan Meyer officiating.
