
Lois Ann Gholson, 83, formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 12:20 AM on
Monday, April 21, 2025 in Seymour, Indiana. Mrs. Gholson was born in Anderson,
Indiana and raised in North Vernon. She graduated from Vernon High School in
1959 and went on to study cosmetology at Huffer Beauty College in Columbus,
Indiana. She worked as a cosmetologist at Virginia Beauty Salon, Nu Way Beauty
Salon and Muscatatuck State Hospital Beauty Shop. Lois was an avid musician and
pianist, playing organ and piano for Dove & Sharp and Bass & Gasper funeral
homes and several churches. She taught students piano out of her home, including
her children and grandchildren. She and her husband, Ron, were the founding
members of the Gospel Echoes quartet, traveling the tri-state area sharing the
Gospel message for 45 years. Lois served as a Precinct Committeeman to the
Democratic Party of North Vernon as well as Jennings County Sandcreek Township
Trustee, finishing out her husband’s term after his passing. She was a member of
First Baptist Church in North Vernon, active in her community, and a kind and
hospitable neighbor. Lois was a loving caregiver to her Aunt Rachel, her mother
and father, and her husband, Ron, during his battle with cancer. She enjoyed
gardening, playing music, and was known by family and friends as a phenomenal
cook. She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as a generous and
loving mother and “Mamaw”. Born October 4, 1941, in Anderson, Indiana, she was
the only child of Noble and Louise (Cunningham) Krom, both of whom preceded her
in death. On May 14, 1961, she married Ronald L. Gholson, Sr. who also preceded
her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Ann Ochs of Greenwood,
and Rochelle Lee (Jon) Douglas of Louisville; one son, Ronald L. (Pam) Gholson,
Jr. of North Vernon; seven grandchildren, Ashley Gholson of Columbus, Devin
(Olivia) Gholson of North Vernon, Katie (Michael) Robertson of Newburgh, Allie
(Patrick) Stogner of Atlanta, Georgia, Maddie Ochs of Greenwood, Keaton (Morgan)
Douglas of Ketchikan, Alaska, Kameron Douglas of Evansville; and three great
grandchildren, Titus Robertson, Ember Gholson and Calvin Gholson. She was
preceded in death by her son-in-law, David “Dave” W. Ochs. Funeral services will
be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in
Westport with Rev. Ed Malone officiating. Burial will follow at Westport
Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, May 2 from 11:00 AM until
time of service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be
made to Gentiva Hospice, Westport Volunteer Fire Department, First Baptist
Church of North Vernon or Harvest Baptist Church of North Vernon through the
