Mary Narwold, 90

Mary Lou (Linkmeyer) Narwold, age 90 of Batesville, Indiana died Sunday, October 15, 2023 at St. Andrews, Batesville. Born July 16, 1933 in Friendship, Indiana. She is the daughter of Jess and Hulda (Vinup) Linkmeyer. Mary Lou married Allen Fred Narwold on May 4, 1957 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmer’s Retreat. They were together for 63 years.

Mary Lou worked in Thatcher Glass Factory and American Telephone and Telegraph before getting married. In her 63 years of married life, Mary Lou was dedicated to being a dairy farmers wife, and a loving and caring mother, a homemaker. Family was her first priority and the most important thing in the world to her, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mary Lou enjoyed being together with family for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. When she and Allen took vacations, it would be going to farm shows. They traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, France, and Germany as well. She loved to can, freeze, and make preserves from many fruits and vegetables. Making lots of grape and strawberry jelly.

Mary Lou packed many a meal that went to the fields. She also helped on the farm and fed many calves throughout the years. After raising her own children, she helped with the grandchildren, took care of her great granddaughter Hannah one day a week at the age of 73. Farming and family were mom’s life. She was a very involved member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was involved with Ladies Aide. She was a member of the Red Hats and Leisure Ladies. Mary Lou liked playing cards, especially with Rita and Eileen at St. Andrews. She loved to do crossword puzzles, word search, play Bingo, listening to the Cincinnati Reds and watching Let’s Make a Deal and Price is Right.

Mary Lou had three children, Roger who passed away at the age of 15 days. Wade who passed away from cancer at the age of 50, and Amy who is living today.

The family of Mary Lou would like to say “Thank You” to the staff of St. Andrews for taking care of and loving our mother and grandmother for the last 20 months. We would also like to Thank Margaret Mary Health Hospice for making her comfortable. Mary Lou will also miss her loving friends that she made, while living at St. Andrews.

She is survived by her daughter Amy (Steve) Siebert, their children Heather (Brent) Barker, Andy (Amy Jo) Siebert & Holly (Adam) Leising, Ann (Tom) Narwold-Hauk, and her children Barbara Jo Narwold, Colt (Sara) Narwold. Great grandchildren Hannah & Haley Barker, Rebecca, Roxanne Tanner Siebert, Paxton & Hadley Leising, Maebel & Wade Alan Narwold. Brother and sister–in-law Cleo & Mary Alice Narwold, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Narwold of 63 years of marriage, sons Roger & Wade, four sisters Esther, Thelma, Ruth and Dorthy Mae and one brother James.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 10:00am -12:00pm followed by funeral service at 12:00pm all at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads in Batesville. Laura Nicholson, SAM officiating. Burial to follow in St. Paul Church Cemetery.
