Robert L. “Bobby” King, 78, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at The Willows in Greensburg. He was born on October 26, 1947, in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Robert and Betty Ann (Ricke) King.
Bobby was a 1965 graduate of Greensburg Community High School. Following high school, he proudly joined the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Bobby began a career with Hostess, where he worked as a salesman for 30 years before retiring in 2006.
On October 15, 1977, Bobby married Willa “Billie” Jean Harmon, and she survives.
Bobby was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and American Legion Post 129. He proudly served for several years as a member of the American Legion Post 129 Honor Guard. He was also a past member of the Greensburg City Board of Works and the Greensburg Housing Authority. Bobby was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was involved with the bingo and chicken committees.
A devoted supporter of Greensburg athletics, Bobby rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the local teams. He served as the official scorekeeper for the Greensburg baseball team for many years and had played baseball himself during high school and in the Tri-County Baseball League following graduation. His love of sports extended beyond the local community, as he was a lifetime season ticket holder for the Indianapolis Colts, beginning in 1984. He was also a loyal Cincinnati Reds and Notre Dame fan.
Bobby enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially when a deck of cards was involved. His love of sports, community, and fellowship with others made him a familiar and welcoming presence throughout Greensburg. He will be remembered for the many ways he supported his community and the people and activities he cared about.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Billie Jean King; daughter, Becky (Brandon) King; grandchildren, Kyle Vanderpohl, William Cunningham, and Henry Cunningham; brother, Dr. Rodney (Nancy) King; as well as several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Ann King.
Family and friends will gather to pray the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Visitation will follow from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Greensburg Community High School Athletics through the funeral home.
