APC Petition 2026-25 Decatur County Area Plan Commission & Board of Zoning Appeals Building Permit and Inspection Fees change. Ordinance 2026-2. Doug Westerfeld explained that the last time the fees were adjusted was in January 2015. He also discussed the impact of House Bill 1001, explaining that the county has until the end of the year to establish its fees. After that, the fees cannot be changed for five years. Beginning at that point, any future fee increases will be required to follow an established fee schedule, with fees reviewed only once every five years.
Westerfeld stated that the proposed changes do not include any significant adjustments.
APC member Ryan Kennelly expressed concerns about increasing fees for small business owners who are looking to establish or expand businesses in Decatur County. Kennelly voted against the proposal, while the remaining board members voted in favor.
The petition will now be forwarded to the Decatur County Commissioners with a favorable recommendation from the commission. The commissioners will have the final opportunity to approve or deny the proposed fee changes.
