Ronald J. Milligan, 77, of Westport, passed away at 12:48 a.m. on Monday
September 23, 2024, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born January 30, 1947,
in McMinnville, Tennessee the son of Shelah W. Milligan and Dorothy “Jean”
Owens. He was born and raised in Tennessee until the age of 12 when they moved
to Decatur County. He graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1965. He was a
veteran having served in the U.S Army during Vietnam. He attained his bachelor’s
degree from ISU and his Masters from IU in Education. He was a teacher for 36
years, retiring from Brush Creek Elementary in Jennings County. He enjoyed
photography, woodworking, traveling and visited Disney World 93 times. He
married Lisa Brown August 21, 1971, in Westport and she survives. Other
survivors include his daughters Eryn Sproessig of North Vernon and Tara (Keith)
Sample of Westport; 5 grandchildren Austin Thackery, Ema Thackery, Aly Bush,
Hunter Sproessig and Kinsey Sample and a great granddaughter Wynonna Bush. He
was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Douglas Milligan and two son-
in-laws Mike Sproessig and Doug Youngblood. A celebration of life will be held
Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
