Steve H. Hampton, 83, of Westport, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at his son’s residence. He was born on October 21, 1938 in Whitesburg, Kentucky the son of Patrick and Callie (Gilley) Hampton. He graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1957. He owned and operated Hampton’s Plumbing for several years and had retired from Cummins Engine Company after 29 years of
service. Steve was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and the Westport
Masonic Lodge #52 F. & AM. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea. He
married Frances A. Sturgill on June 26, 1960 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She
preceded him in death on April 7, 1997. He is survived by his son, Todd (Melody)
Hampton of Westport; sister-in-law’s, Wilma Hampton and Mary Hampton both of
Westport and 5 grandchildren, Justin, Todd Jr., Gwyn, Deliah and Ladd. He was
preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; brothers, Emery Hampton, Arvis
Hampton, Telmage Clem, Sr. and Orell Hampton. Funeral services will be conducted
at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in
Westport with Pastor Gary East officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport
Cemetery with military graveside rites. A time of visitation will be held on
Friday, June 17, 2022 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00
p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westport
Volunteer Fire Department or Our Hospice through the funeral home. Online
