Thomas Hinners, 76

Thomas Arthur Hinners, age 76 of Batesville, IN passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023 at his home.  He was born on January 31, 1947 in Milan, Indiana to Arthur and Neva (Knowlton) Hinners.  He married Rita Ada (Asche) on May 18, 1968.  He retired from Walmart in 2012  after several years of service as a truck driver.

Upon graduation from high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy and served for 2 years, he traveled the waters on the USS Northampton (CA-26).  When his time in the service was complete, he worked for a short time in a factory, but quickly made the change to an over the road semi driver.  He worked for Baylor and John Moore, while the majority of his career was spent with Walmart.

He traveled all over the country in his truck.  Tom lived in Norfolk, VA and Plainview, TX for a few years, however Osgood and Seymour was where he spent the majority of his life.  In 2020, he and Rita moved back to Batesville to be closer with their family.

He enjoyed driving, playing a round of golf, and spending as much time with family as possible.  He was a long time member of Osgood First Baptist Church, a current member of Batesville American Legion, and previous member of Milan, Osgood, and Seymour Legions.

Tom will be missed by wife Rita, daughter Sonya (David) Forwalt, son Brian (Melissa), grandchildren; Elizabeth (Kevin), Elisha (Jon), Kole (Haley), Emily (Benny), Kristian, and Kaylin, great grandchildren; Holden, Journee, Haisley, Jerzee, Brystol, and Asher, brother Mike (Carolyn), sister-in-law’s Paulette (Maurice) and Sharon (Bill).  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 10 from 4-7 pm. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 10 am., at Osgood First Baptist Church with doors opening at 9 am.  Memorials can be given to Osgood First Baptist, Margaret Mary Hospice, or the Osgood American Legion in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences can be placed at Nealsfuneralhome.net

He was loved by many and will be missed dearly, but as Grandpa Tom would always say “I will just sit right here!!!!”
