Indianapolis, IN – Just before noon today emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash on I-465 northbound at the 42.2 mile marker. When first responders arrived they found a male victim lying in the roadway, unresponsive and unconscious. Despite life saving efforts the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle involved suffered minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation has led officers to believe 51 year old Shawn Patterson of Plainfield Indiana, had trouble with a load in the back of his pick-up. Patterson pulled to the right shoulder, got out of his truck and was making adjustments to the load near the back of his truck. A Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 37 year old Drew Collins of Indianapolis, left the roadway and drove onto the shoulder and struck Mr. Patterson. A semi following the Trailblazer was also collected in the wreckage but that driver was not injured.

Collins was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing and there is no further information to release at this time. Three lanes of I-465 were closed for several hours while the crash was investigated. Troopers were assisted by the Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis EMS, the Marion County Coroner’s Office and INDOT.
